A Successful Voice
We are always happy to hear from our alumni. In particular, those that have transitioned to the mainstream, home schools quite a few years ago!
Tom Fichtner is one of our earlier graduates at Child’s Voice! Now 18 years old, Tom is attending the College of DuPage studying History and Horticulture. He hopes to pursue greenhouse management or another career in horticulture.
Having an older sister with hearing loss, Tom was tested when a baby. He began wearing hearing aids right away and continues to use hearing aids today. His family lived in Elmhurst, so they had heard of Child’s Voice (which was founded in Elmhurst before relocating to Wood Dale). His parents shared that they were impressed by the curriculum and organization of the School. Tom began at Child’s Voice in the School Program at three years old.
He graduated from Child’s Voice in 2003 at six years old and transitioned to Hawthorne Elementary School in Elmhurst for the 1st grade. His academic success continued and Tom graduated in May 2015 from York High School. He participated in the York Boys Swim Team all four years.
Tom is an avid reader and keeps up on current events daily through the Wall Street Journal and other news sources. He enjoys political conversations at home with family, WBEZ radio, listening to music and time with his 11 year old dog, Spot.
Thank you for sharing your story Tom – we can’t wait to hear from you again soon! Maybe you can share some spring garden tips for everyone!
