Beginning the Year & Other Updates

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year!

To begin our year, we look at each student and their room assignment. One of the things that is so unique about Child’s Voice is our ability to group and regroup children as ‘tightly’ as possible. We look at the student’s age, then their language level, and move deeper from there. The first two weeks of school are used to determine if we grouped the students to the best of their ability. When new children come into the School Program the process of placement is ongoing. By Curriculum Night, which is August 29th, the Principal and staff have a good handle on all of this.

Like placement decisions, we have a number of processes we follow to ensure we get the biggest “bang” out of the day. We have tweaked our transition process from class to class, we have changed up our PBIS celebrations (positive behavior program), and we are introducing Common Core to our curriculum and looking at how we write IEP goals.

There is never a dull moment in the beginning of the year. We also have enhanced our enrollment procedures, with forms that are located on our website, being much more family friendly (I hope). We also upgraded our phone system, organization-wide, to a VOIP system.

The Board Directors have been busy also. For several years, we have been searching for the perfect place to expand our Early Intervention Program (birth to age three) to the city of Chicago. I am so pleased to announce our new toddler class begins today, August 27th, in Roscoe Village.

In addition, Child’s Voice has relocated our library and the re-organized our resource room. We had staff and aides working the last weeks of ESY (summer school) to accomplish this herculean task. It is a fantastic addition/update to our resources onsite for the Early Intervention & School Programs!
