Child’s Voice Strategic Planning Process
Every three years Child’s Voice updates its strategic plan. We have been doing this every three years since I first joined the team in 1999. Referring to an old saying, “we’ve come a long way, baby”, we surely have! Child’s Voice has grown leaps and bounds since 1999. For the past several months, the staff, leadership team and board of directors have updated our last plan, and are in the process of finalizing our goals for the next three years.
So what is a Strategic Plan you ask? According to Wikipedia,
Strategic planning is an organization‘s process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy. It may also extend to control mechanisms for guiding the implementation of the strategy. Strategic planning became prominent in corporations during the 1960s and remains an important aspect of strategic management. It is executed by strategic planners or strategists, who involve many parties and research sources in their analysis of the organization and its relationship to the environment in which it competes.
Wow that is a pretty involved and detailed definition, to simply state, great organizations plan its work and works its plan. Child’s Voice is a great organization! Therefore, as a team, we set goals, determine action steps to achieve the goals and engage the necessary resources to execute the actions. Similar to our student’s IEP goals, our strategy describes how the end goals will be achieved with identified resources. Our strategic planning sessions were analytical in nature and led to many deep discussions.
Child’s Voice plan continues to address five pillars. These pillars include: 1.) Metrics and Measurements, 2.) Parent and Alumni Involvement, 3.) Marketing and Awareness, and 4.) Sustainability and Governance. We hope to have this plan approved at the next board meeting on October 16, 2018. We will post this on our website and have hard copies in the building for your information.
Please remember our mission drives the direction and hard work of Child’s Voice. Child’s Voice mission is to empower children with hearing loss to be successful in all educational and social settings by optimizing their listening, speaking and academic skills. Our strategic plan helps us fulfill our vision to be a nationally (international) recognized leader in listening and spoken language education for children with hearing loss and their families.
I know firsthand, through my experience at Child’s Voice, if you plan your work and work your plan, many great successes are achieved.
I am looking forward to sharing our strategic plan with you soon!
